FROM THE RECTOR
These words contain a special invitation to come and share in an open air celebration of Holy Communion on Aldborough Green. On Sunday 30th May, Whitsunday, at ten o'clock in the morning the six parish churches of this benefice and the congregation of Prince Andrew's Chapel are jointly hosting this special event - Christians coming together to affirm that which is good, the Spirit of God which empowers and gives life.
It is right when good things draw us together in celebration, for community life depends on the interaction of all, where each has his or her own gifts and experiences.
Irrespective of whether you are a regular worshipper in one of our churches, this event is designed for all. In that spirit these words are written and the invitation made.
On a practical note, no-one will need to stand, there will be ample seating, and if, just if, the sun doesn't shine and the rain decides to fall, we shall transfer without fuss to the Aldborough Community Centre which has been booked in reserve - just in case!
Fr Brian

.
A QUIET DAY for this benefice has been arranged at the Julian Centre in Norwich on Saturday 12th June, to be conducted by the Revd David Spicer. The little church of St Julian is one of Norwich's gems, in its own oasis of calm between Rouen Road and King Street. Mother Julian was a mystic in the 14th century: her 'Reflections on Divine Love' is credited with being the first book in English written by a woman. (20th century feminists were not the first to refer to God as Our Mother!) After the last visit from these parishes a contributor from Ingworth wrote for 'In Touch' that she had felt "encased in a bubble of timeless serenity ... far removed from the usual worries and trivia of everyday living ...with a clearer, more balanced perspective and a greatly enriched, strengthened, sense of purpose." Mother Julian herself wrote, "All shall be well, all shall be most wonderfully well".
Places are limited because of the size of the building: if you want to come contact the Rector without delay. 01263 768073.

CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP will be having an outing on Tuesday 25th May. To find out more ring Pauline Hill on 01263 768738.

IT'S YOUR CALL! You and your vocation - Come and explore where God might be calling you. There will be speakers on a variety of ministries on Saturday 2nd May, 10.30 - 3.30 at St Andrew's Parish Church and Hall, Eaton. Free of charge including a light lunch.
Details from the Diocesan Director of Ordinands, Canon Michael Kitchener, 01603 630934, e-mail makitche@fish.co.uk .

ROWING MATT
Ingworth resident Matt Boreham has successfully completed his row across the Atlantic in 83 days! He has come 3rd in the solo race he was competing in and is only the 10th solo rower ever to row between the Canaries and Barbados solo and unaided! He also now holds the record for rowing the smallest purpose built Atlantic rowing boat across an ocean.
Matt is in good shape, though hungry, and would like to thank all his supporters and hopes to be home by the end of April (crossing the Atlantic by plane this time).
CONGRATULATIONS TO MATT on his magnificent achievement!
One of Matt's aims was to draw attention to the National Blood service, so we are pleased to announce that there will be a mini Blood Mobile Session in the Aldborough Community Centre Car Park on Monday 14th June, from 1.00pm, with the last donors arriving at 7.00.

NORWICH CATHEDRAL inspiration for the future PROJECT
The new Refectory is now up and running, a lovely building, fitting into the old herbgarden next to the cloister with modern strength and elegance. There is a lift, and there are new loos, so creature comforts are now well looked after. The new Library will soon be open with a Reading Room for public use. Borrowing rights for the more modern books will be available for a modest annual subscription.

AND THEN THERE WERE 11!
"Thou shalt not be negative!" might seem a contradiction in terms, but the Methodist Church has decreed that henceforth this shall be the eleventh commandment. Together with the satirical Christian website, ShipofFools.com, the Methodists promoted a competition by way of thousands of beermats in pubs throughout the country. Over 2000 text messages came back. Others shortlisted were: "Thou shalt not worship false pop idols", "Thou shalt not kill in the name of any God", "Thou shalt not confuse text with love" and "Thou shalt not consume thine own bodyweight in fudge". (This last is reputed to have been sent in by the Vicar of Dibley.) The student who thought up the pop idol one said:"There are celebrities who do nothing ... the golden calves of today. They do not serve any purpose other than to be idolised." The Methodist spokesman was delighted that there were so many having 'Moses moments': "People are interested in talking about values and spiritual issues, even on a night out."

THANKS for donations recently received from readers in Erpingham and from an anonymous reader, a regular visitor to Thwaite Common, 'one of the most interesting grasslands in Norfolk. The orchids when out are a sight to behold.' But this reader goes on, 'Sadly the sight of redundant cars, scrap iron, gates and rotten hay is a slight on the wonderful outlook for the residents and visitors like myself.' He/she asks for these comments to be published to encourage some action.

THE NEXT ISSUE Copy please by Monday, 17th May.
